Chair – Kami Abdullayev

Kami Abdullayev is the lead of the PhD network within 4M which supports PhD students working in menstrual health research across the world. She is a PhD student on the Medical Research Council funded Doctoral Training Programme based at University College London, UK. Her background is in Health Psychology and her work focuses on applying knowledge from the health psychology discipline to menstrual health experiences to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of people who menstruate

Vice Chair – Lisa Zuidema

Lisa Zuidema is a PhD candidate at Máxima MC and Maastricht University, focusing on qualitative research related to menstruation narratives. Her work examines experiences of cycles, pain, and stigma, aiming to improve societal and healthcare responses. In January 2025, she launched an online module with 33 menstrual stories to enhance accessibility. Committed to advocacy, she seeks to challenge menstrual taboos and promote awareness of women’s health while contributing to the 4M PhD network to build a supportive community for early-career researchers.

Secretary – Amandine Senequier

Amandine is a third-year PhD student at Queen Mary University of London, researching ADHD in girls and women with a focus on hormonal changes and physical activity. She joined the 4M PhD Network Committee to support PhD students in menstrual health research and, as Secretary, aims to ensure the committee runs smoothly with her organisational skills. She is eager to promote inclusivity and collaboration within the network.

International Officer – Christina Steyn

Christina is pursuing her PhD in Translational Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on how biological rhythms (menstrual cycle, circadian rhythms, and metabolism) impact mental health in individuals with severe mental illness. Originally from South Africa, she joined the 4M PhD Committee to expand the Network’s reach to low- and middle-income countries and to address barriers faced by international members in engaging with the community.

Media & Outreach Officer – Sarah Kroener

Sarah, a second-year PhD student at the University of Bristol in Digital Health CDT, focuses on using wearable devices to monitor temperature during the menstrual cycle for women’s health research. They joined the committee to enhance research networks and community, and as Media and Outreach Officer, they aim to improve public communication and raise the network’s visibility and impact.

Accessibility Officer- Chella Quint OBE

Chella Quint OBE is an author, artist, educator, and founder of the Period Positive movement, based in Sheffield, UK. She has written Own Your Period and Be Period Positive, and creates the zine series Adventures in Menstruating. As a PhD researcher in Art & Design at Sheffield Hallam University, she focuses on enhancing menstrual-span literacy through arts-based methods. As Accessibility Officer, Chella helps network members prioritize wellbeing and ensures that D/deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent individuals can participate fully in activities.
