Speaker – Dr Julie Hennegan

Dr Julie Hennegan is a mixed-methods researcher investigating the social determinants of health, and the evaluation of complex social interventions. Her work focuses on menstrual health across high- middle- and low-income country settings. Julie is a Senior Research Fellow at the Burnet Institute where she co-leads the Global Adolescent Health working group. She holds a Reckitt Global Hygiene Fellowship and NHMRC Investigator Emerging Leadership Grant. She joined the Burnet Institute in 2020 following a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She holds an MSc and DPhil from the University of Oxford (UK).

Dr Julie Hennegan will be discussing the Adolescent Menstrual Experiences and Health Cohort (AMEHC) study is a prospective longitudinal cohort following 2,000 adolescent girls in Khulna, Bangladesh from the start of secondary schooling (age 12), initiated in 2023. AMEHC aims to understand how menstrual experiences change throughout adolescence, and the impact this has on health and education over time. This presentation will outline the study objectives and methods, and share findings from preparatory research informing study measures, hypotheses, and community engagement activities.
